What is a Micro Wedding and How is it Different Than an Elopement?

Recently, micro weddings have become very popular, and we understand why! There is something so special about celebrating with the only people closest to you. Micro weddings are intimate celebrations with around 20 to 30 guests. They typically include all the elements of a traditional wedding—ceremony, reception, and decor—but on a smaller scale. It’s perfect for couples who want a meaningful celebration without the stress of a large guest list.

So how is a micro wedding different from an elopement? Well, micro weddings are smaller versions of a traditional wedding. Elopements, on the other hand, typically only involve the couple exchanging vows in front of an officiant or witness, and maybe a few guests. While much smaller than a traditional wedding, micro weddings still involve planning and creating guest experiences.

Benefits of Planning a Micro Wedding

Splurge on Decor

While micro weddings have a smaller guest list, they allow you to splurge in other areas. When you have fewer people to feed and seat, you can invest more in creating a truly memorable experience! Many of our couples create gorgeous tablescapes and invest in large floral installations instead of filler decor.

Embrace Unique Arrangements

One of our favorite things about planning a micro wedding is all of the unique arrangement possibilities for your ceremony and reception! Larger guest lists are limited in how they can arrange the seats for their ceremony, but micro weddings have more freedom. Consider setting your guests’ chairs in a circular arrangement, or have them face the aisle and place the altar in the middle! There are so many possibilities for your ceremony and reception set up that will make your micro wedding feel special and unique.

Elevate your Dining Experience

Additionally, many couples choose to elevate their dining experience. One of our favorite ways to do this at Diamond A Ranch is with Shadow Peak Chuckwagon! This family-run catering company cooks authentic Texas cuisine right in their chuckwagon, serving mouth-watering meals directly to your guests. And if this isn’t your preference, there are so many ways to customize your wedding reception meal!

Include Intimate Details

Another perk of planning a micro wedding is all the ways to personalize your event. We have seen our couples write handwritten notes to their guests, involve their guests in a unity ceremony like ring warming, and invite each of their guests to share during toasts, instead of just the wedding party. Plus, having a smaller guest list means you can spend more intentional time with each of your guests.

Advice for Planning a Micro Wedding

If you’ve been considering planning a micro wedding, here are our best tips for you! First, keep your wedding party size small. Many micro wedding couples forgo wedding parties entirely, but it’s truly up to you. Next, keep a simple bar. With fewer guests, you don’t need to provide as much alcohol. We also recommend hiring vendor teams instead of individuals! For example, find a photographer and videographer team, instead of just a photographer or just a videographer. And lastly, choose a venue that is already beautiful, like the Diamond A Ranch. Our couples don’t need to spend so much time and money decorating, because the gorgeous views of the Texas Hill Country speak for themselves!
